Aaron Peterson curled a sensational effort past Justin Pasfield to secure an important win for the visitors, but it was the Wolves’ less than spectacular effort in front of goal which cost them.
They held possession for most of the second half and had two goals disallowed in the opening stanza due to being ruled offside.
Josh MacDonald had both efforts denied by the officials in the first half, but Wollongong couldn’t cash in a wealth of opportunities.
“We created a lot of chances but just couldn’t finish,” Wolves coach Jacob Timpano said.
“It was frustrating because we really could have got more out of the game.
“It’s disappointing because we played well but really just missed out opportunities when they came to us.”
White Eagles keeper David Bradasevic rightfully took man of the match honours, but was beaten twice in the first by efforts which were denied by officials.
MacDonald scooted around the gloveman early the half before being denied again on the half hour mark.
Bradasevic continued to defy the Wolves in the second half as the hosts held the bulk of possession.
Wolves star import Takuya Nozawa blazed his half volley wide of the mark in the 64th minute.
Peterson’s moment came with 13 minutes to go.
The White Eagles striker was given too much time outside the box and he curled his long-range effort past an out-stretched Justin Pasfield to seal the win.
Bradasevic made several key saves in the final minutes to help Bonnyrigg hold on to their first win of the season,
“We are doing the right things but it just isn’t clicking at the moment when we need it to,” Timpano said.
“It’s a lack of confidence in front of goal. We aren’t playing bad at all.
“Ultimately they got one really good goal against the run of play but there was still so many positives to take out of the performance.”
The loss saw the Wolves drop out of the top five while the White Eagles lifted themselves off the bottom of the ladder.
