Illawarra chairman of WIRES Wildlife Rescue Robert Crawford explained the vandals "smashed locks off the door with logs" and broke into the aviary cutting the cage with wire cutters.
Luckily no birds escaped nor were injured during the vandalism.
Federal member for Whitlam Stephen Jones was present at the scene feeling frustration towards the suspected kids and forwarded the message to the vandals too "think about your actions".
Mr. Jones also noted that he would be making a contribution towards the repair of the aviary after the next budget and called upon community members to help donate.
Volunteer workers with the aviary hoped that sufficient funds would not only fully repair the aviary but also allow for the installation of cameras to deter further vandalism.
WIRES is an Australian wildlife rescue organisation made up mostly of volunteers.
The aviary that was vandalised has been known to save up to 2000 birds annually.
WIRES have requested that the location of the Shellharbour aviary be kept confidential.
The matter has been reported to police.
