Some of the Illawarra’s most talented junior athletes have been rewarded for their efforts throughout the summer at the recent Athletics Wollongong presentation.

The club has experienced an extremely successful season, with 16 athletes competing at the Australian Junior Championships in March.
Karlee Symonds was named most outstanding junior athlete after a season that saw her win gold in the Under 20 T11 Para 200 metre, 400m and 800m events at the Australian Championships, along with a bronze in the 100m. Symonds raced against Commonwealth Games gold medalist Isis Holt in the 100m final.
Symonds also swept the 100m, 200m, 400m and 800m events at the NSW Junior Championships in February.
The president’s award was won by emerging star Chelsea Ezeoke, who broke numerous long-standing club and NSW Country records throughout the season, including a country record that had stood since 1975.
The 12-year-old won five gold medals and a bronze medal at the country championships, before winning a further three gold and one silver medal at the state championships and finishing off the season with three gold and one bronze medal at the national championships.
Versatile teenager Delta Amidzovski was named most outstanding field athlete after claiming the under 14 girls Australian high jump title. Competing up an age group, the 12-year-old cleared a height of 1.62m to claim the victory by a considerable seven centimetre margin.
Amidzovski also won silver in the 80m hurdles at nationals and picked up two silver medals at the state championships.
Amidzovski was presented her award by 2017 winner Rosie Tozer. The 16-year-old high jumper is currently preparing to fly to Port Vila, Vanuatu to contest the Melanesian Games where she will attempt to qualify for October’s Youth Olympics.
Emerging hammer thrower Jackie Lenartowicz was also recognised for the club records she broke throughout the season.
