They will be “doing time to stop youth crime” and participating in the Police Citizens Youth Clubs NSW fundraising initiative Time4Kids.
Time4Kids helps raise much needed resources and publicity for the PCYC and the valuable work it does in our community.
The money raised goes to support the work of police programs from the PCYC.
The PCYC NSW is one of the largest youth organisations in the country with over 60 clubs and centres across the state and more than 85,000 members.
PCYC clubs actively work with the young people in the community and develop their skills, character and leadership.
They provide a range of sporting, recreational and educational programs to youth and the community.
In NSW PCYC’s police officers case manage young offenders at risk in a hope of moving them away from old friends and old habits to be more constructive and valued members of society.
Locally, our PCYC clubs are well supported and well respected.
Friday’s event will be the first of three Time4Kids events across the region supporting three clubs.
Time4Kids in Wollongong supports the Wollongong PCYC Club, the Corrimal Lederer Centre event on June 7 supports the Bulli PCYC and the Shellharbour Square event on August 30 supports the Lake Illawarra PCYC.
Over $3500 has already been raised for the Wollongong PCYC but it is hoped that figure will double by the end of the week.
Illawarra Mercury editor Julian O’Brien (pictured with RDA Illawarra CEO Deb Murphy in a Time4Kids lockup several years ago) will be serving time in the mall on Friday.
He needs your help.
You can go to https://time4kidslocalevent2018.everydayhero.com/au/julian to make a tax deductible donation to Time4Kids.
Illawarra Hawks captain Kevin White, well-known local actor Scott McRae and Wollongong PCYC manager Michael Jones will be among the identities also taking part in the mall on Friday.
Please support the cause by making a donation online or contributing to one of the volunteers in the mall on Friday.
