Jason Veale got into some excellent sized fish only a stone’s throw away from the coastline, scoring a dozen fish between him and his crew both days fishing the shallows for reds.
Not to be out done, Andrew Wenham headed north to the drifts up off Stanwell Park and minutes into his first drift saw a nice 1.5kg lizard come over the side. He continued the drift and nailed a very impressive dusky that went 3.53kg cleaned and now is leading the in-store competition for the flathead.
Many other boats did well on most of the local sand drifts with plenty of very healthy flathead coming back to the tables and little or no reports of dreaded barracouta or toads on these inshore drifts. With very little swell about over the weekend, the rocks and beaches were a little quiet but still held some good fish if you could find any sort of wash.
Some of the ledges produced some good pigs and bream although patience and steady burley trail was needed to entice them as the clear conditions made them very skittish.
Beaches still held plenty of good whiting and bream as the conditions made it perfect for finding their favourite of baits the humble beachworm and anglers had success flicking worm coloured and similar looking plastics into the gutters for a feed of flathead.
The mulloway boys have been reporting plenty of school sized jewies about with most of the fish being around the 5-8kg mark but he bigger fish are still playing very hard to get.
