Comic Gong has grown from an idea for an event at the Corrimal library to a full blown extravaganza which now takes over and showcases every inch of Wollongong’s art precinct.
In 2017, it was anticipated over 10,000 attended Comic Gong across the four main sites of the city’s biggest pop culture festival.
If you are one of the few people who has not yet experienced this event for all ages, you need to do yourself a favour.
This year’s event, which celebrates our love of comics, graphic novels, gaming and cosplay throughout the Illawarra, was officially launched on Thursday and will be a drawcard for the city on Saturday, May 19.
Thousands will flock to peruse the trade stalls, watch the action like the rock ‘n’ roll wrestlers, marvel at the extravagant cosplay costumes and try first-hand some of the activities. Get along to experience it.
A CAPITAL INTEREST
News the Illawarra Hawks and Basketball ACT are exploring the possibility of a couple of games in Canberra will come as little surprise.
Emotion aside and looking at it through rational business eyes, it makes good business for the Hawks to explore feeding the nation’s capital which has been devoid of top level basketball since the death of the Canberra Cannons.
Given the Hawks need to secure their future and it is only the proposition of a small number of games, then it should be roundly supported as long as the Hawks can provide a satisfactory solution to those fans who have already invested in season memberships.
With the National Basketball League looking to expand its reach, support, exposure and increase its television audience, it would do no harm for the Hawks to take a lead in this significant neighbouring market ahead of any competitors.
Without a doubt, if it comes to fruition, many Hawks fans will take the opportunity to use it as an excuse do a weekend visit to the nation’s capital.
Let’s wait and see what happens but there is little doubt new general manager Mat Campbell and owner Simon Stratford have the best interests of the franchise and the region at heart.
