If you really want to start your day right, then head to Connies Cafe on Cliff Road at Wollongong’s North Beach. Not only can they help you out with an amazing coffee. They also have a huge range of delicious breakfast options – after all breakfast is the most important meal of the day!
Connies Cafe is run by Connie and her son Rhyse Tubaro and was established in 2009. Rhyse says the Cafe is most popular for their all day breakfast and breakfast menu which offers everything from porridge, muesli and toast to a full big breakfast, avocado smash and omelettes. They cater for vegans / vegetarians and the entire breakfast menu is also available to take-away.
“One of our biggest specialties would be our Acai bowls, we were doing them before a lot of places in Wollongong even knew what they were,” he said.
“Rather than provide the one option we have an entire Acai bowl menu so customers can choose everything from what it gets blended with, to what goes on top, and we are constantly told that our house made granola is the best around.”

If coffee is your number one priority you won’t be disappointed as Connies Cafe use Gusto Manana from Seven Miles coffee roasters.
“Our blend is a Latin American blend with aromas of dark chocolate and hazelnut with beans sourced from all over South America,” Rhyse said. “I think the reason our customers love our coffee is because it is a very consistent blend, its quality comes through in the coffee and it always tastes the same. We have been told by our regulars that we would be in trouble if we ever changed the bean.”
Connies Cafe say consistency and experience behind the machine is what makes a great coffee - everything from the grinding, tampering, extraction and frothing of the milk. Connie and Rhyse have a combined 30 years of experience as baristas.
“As people get more and more ‘sophisticated’ with their coffee drinking we have noticed they have gone from drinking huge muggachinos to piccolos and macchiatos. People are starting to really notice the taste of different blends,” Rhyse said.
Connies Cafe also offers a scrumptious lunch menu with burgers, salads, melts, pastas and bruchettas.
“What drives us is our huge customer base, we have an enormous amount of regulars who have been coming since we began,” Rhyse said. “The longer we do this job the more it feels like we are building a family or community.”
Connies Cafe is located at 1/16 Cliff Road, Wollongong (opposite the Novotel).
