The 16-year-old finished second behind Queensland’s Elizabeth Moss in the under 18 girls high jump with a clearance of 1.73 metres.
The result added to a string of impressive performances throughout the Australian athletics season, which included a bronze in the under 20 girls high jump at the NSW Junior Championships and a silver medal in the under 18 girls high jump at the Australian Junior Championships.
Like in Port Vila, it was Moss who took gold at the Australian titles.
Unfortunately the second place finish at the Melanesian Championships rules the Athletics Wollongong member out of contention for a spot on the Australian Youth Olympic Games team, with only gold medalists from last week’s event considered for selection in the team to compete in Buenos Aires this October.
