Aster Group chief executive Daniel Munk and Flagstaff chief executive Roy Rogers are leading the field in fundraising as they roll out a series of joint fundraising events leading up to the Sleepout in Wollongong on June 21.
The two popular bosses threw out the challenge to other CEOs and businesses recently and will be happy with whoever raises the most because it is going to such an important cause at the hardest time of the year for many Illawarra families.
“I am happy to finish second. Other businesses are taking up our challenge. We want to raise as much as possible.”
Wests Illawarra and The Flagstaff Group hosted a combined Coffee Day fundraiser at The Craft on Wednesday
“Each year the Coffee Day provides a conversational platform to raise awareness for the serious issue of homelessness and to enable staff from our organisation’s to collectively contribute to the positive impact that the CEO Sleepout has on the local community,” Mr Munk said.
“In the past, I have been approached by team members who have been directly exposed to homelessness in their family.”
“As an organisation we recognise the life-changing potential that funds raised through the Sleepout has.”
A second coffee fundraiser is planned for Pippi’s Cafe at The Flagstaff Group Monday.
A movie night for employees and their families from both organisations is also planned in the lead up to the two chief executives sleeping out in the cold for one night to raise funds and awareness for the cause.
Mr Munk and Mr Rogers are long-term participants and supporters of the CEO Sleepout.
Their combined total to date is more than $65,000.
St Vincent de Paul Society’s Wollongong Diocesan Central Council executive officer Peter Quarmby said more than 20 chief executive had already signed on for the 2018 Sleepout. He is confident that there will be around 30.
“I am proud to be part of the CEO Sleepout for my seventh consecutive year,” Mr Rogers said.
Wests Illawarra supports ongoing initiatives of the St Vincent de Paul Society such as the Vinnies Home Starter Packs it has funded since 2014.
The packs help displaced people and families establish themselves in a new home.
Wests also participates in the Vinnies bi-monthly food van.
“The appreciation and feedback from our staff who have completed shifts in the food van has been amazing, giving them an even greater awareness of the need in the suburbs that they reside in,” Mr Munk said.
