The theme for the 11th KidsFest Shellharbour, which runs from May 20 to 26, is ‘Share, Grow, Inspire’.
KidsFest is a community run, free week-long festival for children aged 0-12, their families and carers.
The festival features more than 50 free events throughout Shellharbour City.
There will be art, craft, circus, music, stories, a magic show, lantern parade, Aboriginal dancing, star-gazing and more.
The festival kicked off on Sunday with ‘All Aboard the KidsFest Express’ at the Illawarra Light Railway Museum, Albion Park Rail.
The free family day included steam train rides, arts and crafts and live music.
Attendees could also meet animals and reptiles via Symbio Wildlife Park’s Zoo2You.
Albion Park mother Sue Phillips attended with daughters Amyla, three, and Zaya, six.
Mrs Phillips said this was their second year attending KidsFest events, and they planned to take part in more activities in 2018.
“I just love that it’s so open, and it lets the kids be really creative in a fun and safe environment,” she said.
“There’s no pushing, no shoving, everyone’s just having fun.”
Other KidsFest events will include the Emergency Services Expo, where kids can crawl through a smoke house and meet Emergency Services Helper Friends.
