Illawarra Sports High School students have returned to class after a bomb threat saw them evacuated from school buildings earlier on Monday.

Police officers searched the school grounds and confirmed the threat as a hoax just after 10.15am.
Students are being allowed back into school buildings after earlier assembling on the back oval.
Inspector Darren Kelly said emergency services responded to an allegation “there was a device on the premises” about 9am.
“On police arrival the school had been evacuated by staff,” he said.
“We waited some period of time before commencing a search where no items of interest have been located. As a result of that the students have since returned to school.”
The school received a bomb threat this morning and students and staff were evacuated to the school oval, Illawarra Sports High School said in a statement.
“Police and emergency services were called to the school to investigate.
“Students have since returned to class.
“The principal would like to thank staff and students for the orderly evacuation of the school grounds and following all evacuation procedures,” the statement said.
Ambulance and fire crews were also called to the school.
Fire and Rescue NSW Duty Commander for the Illawarra Inspector John Hawes earlier said a hazardous materials unit was “on standby”.
