Wollongong police are hunting two men responsible for a violent carjacking of a Volkswagon from two Chinese nationals Monday morning.

The victims – two university students aged 25 and 26 – were driving around the top level of Wollongong’s Piccadilly Centre car park about 9:40am when two males approached them.
One man punched the driver in the face while demanding she hand over her keys. The the other man produced a knife and tried to grab the second woman’s handbag though a struggle ensued, the victim keeping her bag.
Inspector Mark Walker said the victims luckily did not suffer any life-threatening injuries.
“The two males left in the car shortly after,” he said. “The car has since been found in the Lake Illawarra District around 3pm and has been recovered.”
Inspector Walker said it’s believed the offenders were also responsible for a break and enter at the City Beach Motel on Crown Street overnight.
He said two males of the same description forced their way into an occupant’s room, running away with a phone and money.
