In fact more than 1000 children across all of Big Fat Smile’s 27 community preschools participated in National Simultaneous Storytime.
An initiative of the Australian Library and Information Association, the annual event now in its 18th year, is designed to encourage more young Australians to read and enjoy books.
The 2018 book – Hickory Dickory Dash, is written by Tony Wilson and illustrated by Laura Wood.
Big Fat Smile CEO Jenni Hutchins said the organisation chooses to actively support and participate in the national event as it recognises and promotes the importance of literacy and reading to children.
“We believe that reading sparks a child’s imagination and is integral to their education and development. This is why reading to children is an important part of early development and it is part of our daily educational curriculum,” she said.
“Big Fat Smile chooses to have all of our centres participate in National Simultaneous Storytime to highlight the importance of being read to and reading as an activity, as well as the impact literacy has on quality of life in the future.”
