The 23-year-old Barrack Heights man with an intellectual disability dressed up as a prince for the occasion with his brother Michael who helped orchestrate the feat.
Michael Silva began a social media campaign last December with a Facebook page aimed to get some attention and that he did. Within days Blue Wiggle Anthony Field caught wind of the campaign and sent a tweet to Mr Silva telling him he would love Greg to be involved.
“You just want to help as much as you can, and if becoming a prince in a Wiggles video puts a smile on Greg’s face and Michael’s face, it will put a smile on our faces too,” Field told the Mercury.
The young man was born with tuberous sclerosis, a rare genetic disorder which is believed to be the cause of his intellectual disability and his epilepsy. Possibly Wollongong’s biggest Wiggles fan, Greg has been to every local show (and some afar) over the last 10 years.
“It makes us very, very happy and proud that we can actually provide some entertainment for Greg that he enjoys. It brightens our day and it brightens the show when we see Greg dancing and doing all the actions,” Field said.
Both Michael and Greg will feature in a song about princes and princesses for the upcoming DVD Wiggle Pop! which is set for an early November release.
“Greg couldn’t stop talk about it,” Mr Silva said. “From the moment the big pink car arrived to pick him up, he was absolutely over the moon with screams of joy.
“He had a sing-along with the Wiggles as well, we had a tour of the studio – they were just so good to him.”
Mr Silva’s dream for his much loved sibling didn’t end there as he has reached out to numerous Illawarra business to get behind his brother ahead of his “big day”.
The campaign has received vouchers from McDonalds, Tonitto’s Cakes, Dosh Limousines, Oak Flats Bowling and Recreation Club, King Burek, Foodworks, Figtree Growers, Kanahooka Takeaway, Civic Video and AMF Bowling.
“We live in such a great community,” he said.
