Organisers of Wollongong’s biggest music festival have upped the ante this year by increasing the number of tickets available by nearly 30 per cent.
The Yours & Owls Festival at Stuart Park in North Wollongong drew 14,000 last year, though a bigger spend on artists hopes to lure up to 18,000 across September 29 and 30.
“We’ve spent more money on bands, more money on all the infrastructure … our lineup’s pretty huge this year, so yeah, have a few more people in,” co-founder Ben Tillman told the Illawarra Mercury.
The festival has become quite a drawcard for people to visit the Illawarra with around 50 per cent of last year’s ticket sales coming from out of the area, Mr Tillman said.
The majority of out of town music fans travelled from the ACT and other parts of NSW, while about five per cent came from Victoria and “slightly less” from Queensland.
The logistics and ground setup at Stuart Park will change this year to adapt to increased patron demands but inclusions will stay the same such as food and market stalls. Camping options will also be available.
While the under 18 community won’t be forgotten with a separate concert planned for them aside to the main event, with details still to be released.
Pre-sale tickets go on sale for Yours & Owls on May 31; general admission go on sale June 5.
