A couple of years ago, gaining a part-time job while at school seemed out of reach for Callum, but a unique pilot program developed by Greenacres, called Kickstart for Life, has resulted in paid employment.
Kickstart for Life was created to give training, work experience and in some cases, paid employment to high school students with disability aged from 15 to 18 during after-school hours.

In a safe and supportive environment, groups of students are trained and supported over a six week period by a team of qualified and experienced staff.
As well as learning employability skills, participants also gain practical experience in the world of work, including WHS rules, how to follow directions and how to work as part of a team. Other equally important benefits of the program are improved confidence, social skills, teamwork and communication skills.
After completing the Kickstart for Life program, Callum was offered casual work at Greenacres and now loves being able to earn money in the school holidays.
Since its inception in 2016, over 40 teenagers have taken part in Kickstart for Life and it is continuing to grow.
