When he told Mr Floro about how they would be perfect for an Aussie Books for Zim library in Mudzi he agreed to donate all but the ones being used in Pie Face for new release rentals.
“When my friend Borge Rasmussen, of Care For Street Kids Australia, told me about the shelving I thought it would be perfect for a community library we are setting up in Zimbabwe that will mainly be used by school students. The library will be for education purposes. We are also donating some of the shelving to a few schools that have never had a library before. We are giving them a few thousand books”.
The shelves have been taken to Storage King until they can be sent to Zimbabwe.
Mr Chidembo told Mr Floro “you are my newest definition of a Super Star”. “We are collecting books all the time. We have one shipping container that is already full in Wollongong with school uniforms, lab equipment and books. And another shipping container in Melbourne with $2 million worth of books. We just need to do fundraising now to ship them. Or maybe partner with some companies who want to help in that regard.”
Mr Chidembo wants to set up more libraries in more communities and schools and is presently searching for another shipping container. “One we have in Russell Vale donated by Big Fat Smile is being used for storage. Now we are looking for a container that is sea worthy that we can put all the material in and send it over.
“Then I will go over and actually help set up the library.”
Mr Floro said it was great to be able to help such a good cause.
“We had some of our friends dismantle the shelving with care and help us pack it up in boxes and crates. This has really lifted my spirits because some other people in the world are going to benefit.”
This week Mr Floro has been working on some outdoor sitting on a deck outside Pie Face and plans to keep the business open until 8pm for new release movie rentals. The new veterinary hospital next door in the former Video Ezy space will also stay open until 8pm.
