Mr Bredereck told the Mercury on Friday morning that JetGo has appointed an administrator.
“The administrator is now assessing the viability and future operations of the business,” he said.
“During the period of administration the company has suspended regular public transport services. This includes flights from Illawarra Regional Airport.
“We hope this is a temporary measure.
“JetGo will continue to operate some charter services during this period.”
The administrators are Jonathan McLeod and Bill Karageozis of McLeod & Partners.
Earlier this week, Essendon Fields airport CEO Chris Cowan expressed concern over news of financial troubles within JetGo.
Speaking to the Mercury earlier on Friday morning, Mr Cowan confirmed all JetGo flights in Australia for Friday had been cancelled.
Shellharbour City Council have been approached for comment.
Shellharbour councillor Kellie Marsh posted the following on Facebook on Thursday: “Illawarra Regional airport isn't going any where. Shellharbour Council is fully committed to the airport operations”.
