Pro-surfers Mason Ho of Hawaii and the South Coast’s own Kai Otton were along for the ride to film an installment of The Search series by Rip Curl.
The car park was jam-packed as word spread of a celebrity trio making the most of massive swell along the Illawarra coastline.
The water was equally crowded as keen surfers braved the dangerous conditions to carve it up alongside Fanning, Ho and Otton.
Ho emerged from the surf with an injured hand after cutting in on the reef, but it didn’t stop him from having a laugh about it with a group of locals, or giving a high-five to a couple of talented young surfer girls.
