MORE PRESSING ISSUES?
In response to the page 18 article, "Thousands join the reconciliation walk" (Illawarra Mercury, Saturday June 2, 2018), no doubt the 2000-plus students from various public and private schools along with the 400 community members have the best of intentions.

But are there not more pressing issues to address "currently" in relation to children in Aboriginal communities?
The Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sex Abuse heard the cases of sexual abuse victims who gave accounts of the trauma, pain and suffering they experienced as children at the hands of Catholic priests and Christian Ministers.
However, the children in Aboriginal communities in the Northern Territory are being severely neglected with cases of physical abuse and rape, with addiction to drugs and petrol.
Human dignity and respect should not be determined by the colour of a persons skin or their social status, yet these dear children are on the streets living worse than animals with no love, respect or dignity.
These children are not being protected from harm and neglect because the authorities including government do not want too be labeled as intolerant and/or racist.
If a Catholic archbishop can be charged with failing to report child sex abuse, then who is going to be charged for failing to report the abuse of these vulnerable children?
I can only assume that we take the royal commission, seriously?

ACCEPTING THE SCIENCE
Adrian Devlin claims that people who understand climate change are “Avoiding Facts”.
This would include the 99.9 per cent of scientists and researchers who also believe in climate change I imagine.
Neither Mr Devlin nor Tony Abbot are scientists.
May I strongly suggest that Mr Devlin looks up the definition of “The Dunning Kruger Effect” and then goes and has a long hard look in a mirror?
I believe in climate change not because of my opinion or because of the opinion of any politician or media personality.
I believe in it because science has done the research and collected the data.
If anyone can produce good hard scientific evidence that climate change is not happening I will happily change my opinion to accept the new science.

A BIT OF A FARCE
Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Act. Act No. 169 of 2006, is very important legislation in the sense it brings under notice and identifies persons funding terrorist activity and those dealing with drug importation and distribution.
On 3 August 2017, Australia’s financial intelligence and regulatory agency, AUSTRAC issued a “press release” notifying that it had initiated civil proceedings against the Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) for serious and systemic non-compliance with the act.
A couple of the allegations included: Between October 2012 and September 2016 Commbank did not comply with the requirements of its transaction monitoring program with respect to 778, 370 transactions
And, during the period November 2012 to September 2015 failed to furnish (on time) 53, 506 threshold transaction reports (TTRs) to Austrac, for transactions of over $10,000.
Move forward to 23/8/17 and amendments to the AML/CTF act under compilation No 41 – in particular Part 17 – Vicarious liability, Part 17a – Review of decisions and Part 18 – Miscellaneous (explanatory notes) and become au fait with conduct, and mental awareness expectations in relation to criminal liability under the revised legislation.
It is a bit of a farce really.
