The Illawarra Stingrays have returned to form with a dominant 4-nil victory over the Emerging Jets on Sunday.

The two sides were level at 0-0 at the halftime break before captain Michelle Carney and Caitlin Cooper each found the back of the net twice in the second period.

“The first half was a bit scrappy, we had a few chances that we didn’t take,” Carney said. “But the second half was a good team performance.

“We started off a bit flat in the first half, but we lifted the intensity in the second half and were able to take our chances.”

The win comes on the back of last week’s 5-1 defeat to Football NSW Institute and leaves the Stingrays in fourth-place, just one point behind competition leaders Manly United in a congested top five.

“Next week against North Shore is a must-win, after that we play three of the top teams. We need to beat the teams below us and hopefully a win gives us a platform for the next three weeks.”
