5.45pm: Motorists heading home after a long weekend getaway are facing extensive delays on the Hume Motorway and Princes Highway.
Northbound traffic on the Hume Motorway was queued 16 kilometres between Yerrinbool and Douglas Park as of 5.20pm on Monday.
Drivers have been told to allow extra travel time and to expect significant delays.
Motorists heading north on the M1 Princes Motorway and the Princes Highway were also facing heavy northbound traffic stretching back towards the Lawrence Hargrave Drive exit at Helensburgh.
Elsewhere, Illawarra roads were problem-free on Monday evening, with no delays being experienced on the usual Princes Highway pinch-point at Albion Park Rail of of 5.45pm.
Earlier, there was heavy holiday traffic northbound on the Princes Highway through Nowra. However, conditions returned to normal about 3pm.
