The council says it has received an application from the organisers of Corona Sunset Music Festival, to be held on December 1 this year.
Similar “sunset” beach festivals – which usually feature and DJ and dance-heavy line-up – have been held around the world, including Dubai, Puglia, Ibiza, England, China, Chile and Mexico.
At the Australian Fremantle incarnation, held in 2016, the line up included Pearls, George Maple, Nina Las Vegas, Basenji, Flight Facilities and Alison Wonderland.
The North Wollongong festival is yet to be widely announced by organisers, but does feature on the Corona Sunsets website as “coming soon”.
According to traffic committee notes, the North Wollongong festival will run from 2pm to 11pm, and would require road closures around the Novotel hotel and Cliff Road on the day of the festival.
The event would be held in the “beach reserve” area, with road closures to provide staff and event parking and shuttle bus drop of areas.
The traffic committee – which meets on Wednesday – has recommended the arrangements for the festival be approved, subject to conditions.
