The “Big Top” will be an indoor live music venue at the University of Wollongong’s Innovation Campus during July and August. 

According to the application, acts will perform on the vacant area behind Science Space, near Campus East residences.

“It will feature three different concerts over three dates, with one stage, two bars and six food stalls,” states event manager Balunn Jones in the application.

In the application he stated venue capacity could hold up to 3200 patrons per show while their target audience is expected to be between 18 and 35-years of age.

Concerts are scheduled for Wednesday July 25, Friday August 3 and Saturday August 11. Gates would open for each event at 6pm with the concert ending by 12am.

The latter will coincide with UOW’s Open Day for prospective students, similar to last year’s Last Frost concert organised by the group.

Noise level issues were also addressed in the application considering the Innovation Campus’ close proximity to residential dwellings.

“[We] have requested that production contractors undertake a planning assessment of the event site to produce a sound plan, highlighting areas of the event where the most sound will be directed,” Ms Jones wrote.

Recycling is also top of mind in the application with recycling waste stations made available, while all stall holders will be advised that “it is a Waste Wise event and that all food must be served in recyclable containers”.

The Illawarra Mercury approached the organisers for further comment on which artists music fans could expect at the concerts, though their response was “info coming soon”.

Yours and Owls are also responsible for the Illawarra’s largest festival of the same name, which recently sold out within days of tickets being released.

Founders Jones, Ben Tillman and Adam Smith have come a long way in the past eight years – from serving coffee at their first venture, Owls Cafe on Kembla Street, to selling out 18,000 tickets to their October long-weekend festival.
