Cydney Atkins understands not everyone is into hippy stuff like full moon ceremonies and energy exchange classes, but that’s okay – her business partner and sister hates it.

The pair have opened a new yoga and fitness studio in Crown Lane, Wollongong, also home to “The Conscious Community”.
“It hits a lot of people in the face and it is a bit weird to think about concepts like that,” Ms Atkins said.
“My sister is not into that stuff at all … but when it comes to that hippy stuff it doesn’t resonate with her at all and that’s where we balance each other out.”
The 27-year-old said aside from health and fitness they wanted to create a not-for-profit space for community, cultural, sustainability and wellness projects.
Each month they host community dinners at the studio where people can come and bring a dish to share and meet new people.
They host documentary screenings – previously one to raise funds for an ocean conservation group, and an upcoming one on mental health.

Sustainable fashion markets are held to promote up-cycling of clothing, Energy Exchange classes are where people can practice yoga in exchange for an item that has their energy (such as something they’ve made like a loaf of bread) and the full moon circle is to be a spiritual and therapeutic space for women.
Ms Atkins said there were also plans to create a men’s event similar to the full moon circle, align with artists and work with Hidden Harvest (advocates against food waste).
Sister Taylor added they didn’t want their studio to be somewhere where people train or do yoga then just go home, they wanted to foster friendships and community by bringing people together.
Taylor Atkins also works a lot with clients through the National Disability Insurance Scheme using fitness to help them with a better quality of life.
“It’s helping that side of the community feeling more comfortable with where they are,” she said.
“Sometimes they don’t feel comfortable in a gym that’s really busy or they’re going to be looked at.”
