Mercury photographer Sylvia Liber spotted the trio of fur seals while having a lookout for passing whales off Bass Point around the middle of the day.
We can only guess at whether they were deliberately co-ordinating their efforts, using their flippers to catch the wind, or whether they just happened to enjoy a moment of synchronised swimming.
They may have more luck on Friday, with blustery winds visiting the region.
The Bureau of Meteorology had issued a severe weather warning for the Illawarra and parts of the South Coast.
Damaging westerlies averaging more than 65km/h, with peak gusts in excess of 100km/h, could develop during the day in the higher parts of the region. Coastal areas should be calmer.
