A metal sign pole for Dhok Koon Thai Restaurant on the Princes Highway in Fairy Meadow had snapped at the base as a result of the wind on Sunday morning
In Unanderra, a wayward trampoline had found its way to the edge of the Princes Highway.
“Thankfully it had blown against a sign and was able to be secured before causing damage or an accident,” the Wollongong SES posted on Facebook.
The Bureau of Meteorology issued an alert for damaging winds on Sunday - hot on the heels of Friday night’s chaotic conditions, which felled trees across the city, cut electricity and sent a trampoline flying into power lines.
Damaging winds averaging 60 to 70km/h, with peak gusts in excess of 90km/h, are possible.
Winds are expected to strengthen during Sunday morning about the Illawarra Escarpment and Hunter coast, easing in the late evening.
Locations which may be affected include Wollongong, Port Kembla, Albion Park, Kiama, Nowra, Huskisson and Ulladulla.
A maximum of 15 degrees is forecast in Wollongong on Sunday, after a chilly overnight low of nine degrees.
Wet weather will follow to start the working week.
There’s a very high chance of showers on Monday, with up to 30 millimetres of rain possible in the city.
Tuesday will also bring a very high chance of showers, with 10-25mm expected.
The NSW State Emergency Service (SES) revealed they had received 120 call-outs, mostly in the Wollongong area on Saturday.
There were also a number of call-outs in Coniston, Dapto, Shellharbour and Kiama.
A spokesperson said they were generally residential jobs.
“Most of the call-outs were for trees down and roof damage,” she said.
“We had jobs all day on Saturday and a handful again this morning. We are not expecting conditions to ease. We are expecting the jobs to continue throughout the day.”
