GOING IT ALONE
Some days ago during discussions on ABC radio with a representative of the group who are now fighting against the proposed jail in Dapto, the person speaking referred to the fact that they (the Dapto Community) seemed to be the only ones fighting this issue, whereas it is believed that it would eventually become also a Wollongong problem in the end.

There was concern expressed that they seemed to be ‘going it alone’. Welcome to the real world.
The Port Kembla Pollution Meeting has been going now for 30 years and has dealt with many issues for the community (of Illawarra) during that time, not all of them pollution related but most certainly matters needing attention and input.
During its many campaigns over the years the silence from other areas has been deafening.
Meeting attendance is now very much in decline, but the few remaining members still push ahead.
The Pollution Meeting produced a book on the occasion of its 20th Anniversary and the launch was a huge success with the attendance of representatives from local industry, council and State Parliament.
It was acknowledged that we “had made a difference”.
The current concern is the proposal by the NSW State Government to send spoil from the West Connex tunnel project to be dumped at the site of the old CRM works at Port Kembla.
Method of transport will be by way of three trains per day each bringing 3000 tonnes of material.
Council were advised of this proposal in 2016 but chose not to share the information, and a recent newspaper article said there is no more room on our train line for any passenger service improvements, so get ready for some disruption if this project does go ahead.
This dumped material will be available for fill where required causing an increase in trucks on our roads and dust, which by the way won’t just drop on Port Kembla and then disappear once they have left its perimeters.
Good luck Dapto.

POWER AND THE PASSION
The only state of Origin I watch is my Origin power/gas bill.
Whenever there is an “estimated” read, the next quarterly bill after that is always sky high for some reason, though you know you used no more than usual.
The meter does not know an estimate was made, so cannot adjust the usage, so when they do the next “actual” read, you get charged twice as much. That's how they rob you. They think the customer is a halfwit.

TIME NOW FOR MT KEIRA
Now that the "Golden" Mile (aka Blue Mile) is completed can we look at a new project, such as Mt Keira Lookout?
This is the best lookout on the South Coast. Get rid of the containers on site and put a small cafe in its place. It would be a jewel in Wollongong's crown. How about it?

WEB WORDS EXTRA
BURST WATER MAIN FLOODS WOOLONGONG STREET
There are more than a few slow leaking water mains around Wollongong (2 on Crown St) seeping up through roads. Not only a waste of water but a continual erosion of the roads where thats happening. The authorities don't seem to give a toss. After all its only taxpayer and ratepayers money going down the drain.
