Roads and Maritime Services is investigating safety improvements at the intersection of Bourke, Virginia and Keira streets.
Those improvements would involve traffic lights controlling the intersection, said Parliamentary Secretary for the Illawarra Gareth Ward.
“The plan would involve installing traffic lights at the intersection of Bourke Street, Keira Street and Virginia Street as well as providing two lanes in each direction for vehicles to travel through the intersection,” Mr Ward said.
As part of the plan right turns from Bourke Street into Virginia Street southbound and Keira Street northbound would be banned.
Pedestrian crossings would be placed on all four legs of the intersection.
Feedback is being sought on the project via an online survey at www.rms.work/bkv
The concrete island in the middle of the intersection would be removed under the proposal but there is no realignment of the intersection planned.
