Officers from Wollongong Police District received a complaint about an incident involving the volunteer who supervises the school crossing.
Police allege a man walked past Woonona Public School around 2.30pm, “as he’d done on previous occasions” and spoke with a woman performing the crossing duties.
“The content of that conversation was intimidating,” a police spokesman said.
The conversation was heard by other parents and children.
After an investigation, a 46-year-old man was arrested and charged with intimidation.
He was granted conditional bail and will appear in Wollongong Local Court on July 17.
One of the bail conditions is that the man not go within 200 metres of schools.
Senior police have since spoken to school staff and will conduct patrols of the area.
