Plastic bag rage was kept to a minimum in Wollongong on Wednesday as Woolworths supermarkets entered the brave new world of life without plastic bags.

Well, not completely without, but no longer will shoppers get single-use carry bags free at the register. Thicker reusable plastic bags can be bought for 15c, or recycled material bags for $1.
Generally customers in Wollongong reacted well, with many people spotted clutching their reusable polypropylene bags as they headed in for some groceries.
Most people were fine with the change at the Wollongong city Woolworths, with a few cranky exceptions.
There were a few incidents where customers somehow managed to be taken be surprise and did not appreciate the new bag-free reality.
One shopper, shocked by the news, left his full trolley at the register and declared he was off to Coles.
Large signs have been advertising the change for weeks.
Coles will stop the bags in two weeks.
Wollongong shopper Courtney Gray said she “firmly supports” the no-bag policy, but admitted she needed the rule change to break the habit.
“I’ve been trying to remember my own bags for a while,” she said.
