Major work on an upgrade to deal with a congested Memorial Drive merge lane at North Wollongong is taking place over the next two months.

Roads and Maritime Services is adding a lane to the Memorial Drive offramp to the Princes Highway, to create two left and two right-hand turn lanes.
In peak periods, traffic had been tailing back down the merge lane, causing problems for motorists looking to enter or exit Memorial Drive.

Major night work is under way at the offramp between 8pm and 4am Sunday to Thursday through to the end of August.
The work includes cables under the road, upgrading the traffic signals and resurfacing the intersection.
While the work is carried out the ramp may be closed at times and occasional lane closures may also be required.
