Police are searching for a man who threatened to stab an elderly driver during an attempted carjacking in Lake Heights on Wednesday morning.

The incident unfolded near the intersection of Kingsley Drive and Arnold Crescent about 8.30am.
Inspector Darren Kelly, from the Lake Illawarra Police District, said a 71-year-old man was in his vehicle when he was approached by another man.
“The male’s attempted to take the keys out of the vehicle. He’s then threatened to stab the victim,” Inspector Kelly said.
“After the altercation, the male’s then taken off without the vehicle.”
The elderly man was not injured during the ordeal.
The offender was last seen fleeing on foot along Kingsley Drive.
He was described by police as being of Caucasian appearance, aged in his late 20s or early 30s, about six feet (or 183 centimetres) tall, of a solid build and clean shaven.
He was wearing a blue-checked flannelette shirt and grey track pants.
The incident is being investigated by detectives and police officers are patrolling the area.
