On the ground level of the Gateway Building from Monday there will be music with milk bottles, disappearing pencils and optical illusions as well as many hands-on activities for families to enjoy.
Questacon delivers a range of intriguing and interactive experiences in its Fascinating Science travelling exhibition. There will be 32 bright and colourful hands-on exhibits from July 9 to 22.
Wollongong Central centre manager Cameron Tynan said the exhibition was designed to make science fun and relevant by engaging people in making their own stimulating discoveries.
“The mix of science and hands-on fun in the Fascinating Science exhibition has something for every visitor,” he said.
Mr Tynan said exciting activities included creating a pyramid using a spatial puzzle that tests your ability to reconstruct three-dimensional shapes.
Visitors can also use geometric puzzle pieces to create a cat, swan, square or triangle.
“Fascinating Science focuses on human senses such as psychology, perception, physiology and balance, explored in a fun, interactive way, helping visitors to enjoy learning about science,” Mr Tynan said.
“Visitors can also experiment with mirrors to unlock secret messages, move pegs on a board to create a variety of patterns, and create a three-dimensional cross using a key and lock puzzle.”
Fascinating Science created by Questacon, at The National Science and Technology Centre in Canberra, is primarily at children aged 8 to 14.
But with opportunities to explore logic, balance, fluids, illusions and mathematical puzzles of varying complexity it is expected to engage people of all ages in the wonders of science.
