In 2017 more than 30,000 Illawarra residents visited Questacon in the nation’s capital, but this July school holidays they can stay at home.
The national science centre’s touring hands-on Fascinating Science exhibition is on show for free from Monday through to July 22 at Wollongong Central.
Activities are targeted to ages eight to 14 – though people of all ages will enjoy them – and explore topics of logic, balance, fluids, biology, physics, illusions, psychology and mathematical puzzles.
Questacon senior exhibit developer Doug Newton-Walters said by providing experiences visitors can learn by making their own discoveries while also making science fun.
“By placing them in charge of their own learning they are and excited by the unknown, invested in finding the answer and justifiably proud of their accomplishment when they find it,” Mr Newton-Walters said.
“It breaks down the perceived barriers that science is hard or inscrutable and shows that through trial and error, testing and failing and the application of logical thinking anyone can discover something amazing.”
SOME OF THE ACTIVITIES …
- Pyramid Puzzle
- Mouse in the House
- Magic Mirror
- Crazy Cube
- Blind Spot
- Balancing Balls
- Aim Without Eyes
- A Maze
