Ice skating has returned to the Novotel with real ice this July school holidays.
Beachside Ice Skating first came to The Deck at the Novotel in 2017.
The difference in 2018 is that instead of synthetic ice the hotel has transformed the terrace into a winter wonderland with an open-air ice skating rink using real ice.
The season will run from July 7-22.
More than 500 people had registered for the two-week period prior to the season kicking off on the weekend.
Organisers reported that 160 people were due to take part on Sunday.
“People seem to really like it and the real ice makes a difference,” the Novotel’s event supervisor Amanda Stewart said.
“It’s nice to see some people who have come along before have given it a second chance and really like it.”
Shellharbour residents Dave and Julie Moane took son Jimmy and his friends ice skating to celebrate his 12th birthday on Sunday.
“It’s just something different, and it’s hard to do outdoor stuff on their birthday in winter,” Mrs Moane said.
Sessions start from midday, with the last session at 7pm all week.
Friday and Saturday evenings will feature two additional sessions from 8pm that are over-18s only sessions.
