Prof Deane said the funding will go towards supporting the Light and Hope Mental Health Clubhouse in Burelli St, Wollongong. It supports the recovery of people with mental illness, helping them build rich personally satisfying, meaningful, socially connected and vocationally productive lives in the community.
Wollongong Coal has supported the clubhouse for more than a decade after being one of the first businesses to make a significant contribution.
“While we very much appreciate donations from all local businesses, we particularly value this contribution from Wollongong Coal, which itself has gone through some difficult times in recent years,” Prof Deane said.
The clubhouse is managed by One Door Mental Health, previously the Schizophrenia Fellowship and supported by the fund-raising efforts of One Door Illawarra.
It was previously known as Highlights on Mental Health and continues to be run by a small committee of community and business leaders.
