The 47-year-old man intentionally broke into the home on Griffin Street about 2.45am on Wednesday and was confronted by the occupants, Lake Illawarra police crime coordinator Sergeant Ray Beacroft said.
The man then fled the scene following “a bit of a scuffle” inside the house.
“He’s got some head injuries, so we’re out there looking for him,” Sgt Beacroft said.
No description of the male was available, only his age and that he was of Caucasian appearance.
Sergeant Beacroft was also unable to go into detail about how the man sustained his head injuries.
He said the incident was domestic violence-related and was being treated as a “targeted offence”.
Any information about the incident or the man’s whereabouts should be provided to detectives at Lake Illawarra police station, on 4232 5599, or by phoning Crime Stoppers (1800 333 000).
In particular, investigators would like to hear from anyone who may have seen someone running from the area at the time.
