The Queenslander was dropped from Australia's Test team for the Ashes last year after a lean run to begin the Sheffield Shield season but rebounded emphatically.

Before a fractured finger ended his English stint with Somerset the 22-year-old had amassed more first class runs than anyone this year.

Power hitting from the outset was a feature of that turnaround and something Renshaw said he had deliberately introduced to his game.

"If I have a bit more intent I'll generally bat a lot better than sitting back and blocking," he told AAP.

"So finding that mixture between intent and full-out defence is the tough thing and I'll learn that through my whole career."

Renshaw hopes to resume batting in the next fortnight and get plenty of time at the crease during the Australia A tour of India in August and September.

A Test series against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates follows that in October.

Renshaw will be an incumbent after he and Joe Burns replaced suspended openers David Warner and Cameron Bancroft after the Cape Town ball-tampering scandal.

His new-found stroke play could fill the void left by the free-wheeling Warner, who ensured the run rate was healthy when a cautious Renshaw was finding his feet at Test level.

"It's going to be a bit different with no Warner if I'm in that Test side," Renshaw said.

"When I first came in I was feeding off him, it's going to be different and will change the scenario opening without Davey there."

Renshaw is yet to sit down with new Australia coach Justin Langer but hopes to pick his brains before heading to India.
