The men broke into a Gold Coast property under construction on June 30 and took the cameras, solar panels and other items before leaving to consume drugs at another location.
Unbeknown to the thieves, the owner of the Helensvale property had been alerted to the 4:20am break-in via a surveillance camera app.
The owner then filmed their crime on the smart phone technology and the thieves taking drugs at another address.
Police used the footage to nab a 29-year-old Gaven man and have charged him with stealing and entering a premise.
He is due to appear at the Southport Magistrates Court on Thursday.
Police are yet to apprehend his three accomplices although they have footage of two of the assailants but are yet to identify the fourth man.
