Following public feedback the Dapto Chamber of Commerce has decided to put the annual fair on hold until next year, to keep it up to date with what the community wants.
“We had some feedback from our own people and also the community that the fair could do with an enhancement or some improvement,” chamber president Ian Fitzgibbon said.
“Time for us is an issue, so to plan everything and do what we want to do in the time we had, we had concerns it wouldn’t happen.
“It was a very, very, reluctant decision … but to get everything in place that we wanted was going to be a little bit of a challenge, so in doubt we erred on the side of caution.”
Mr Fitzgibbon said it was purely a business decision as opposed to drama. He said upgrades to Dapto Square, new business owners and competition from other events have meant they need up the appeal of the fair.
It comes as tickets have gone on sale for Dapto Show, which makes a reprise this year after and being absent in 2017 due to safety concerns over their main attraction.
The show society has organised a live wrestling display, freestyle motorbikes, reptile show, Wonder Woofs along with all the usual agricultural competitions and farmyard animals.
