A new job, a dud dating scene and early starts were the trigger to officially hand in her resignation on Monday and telling listeners on Tuesday of her immediate departure from the station.

“The whole station and my co-hosts weren’t really surprised, they saw the impact the early starts were having on me,” Greig told the Mercury. “It’s something I’ve been considering since I got back from Hawaii [in June].”

She wouldn’t confirm if the new project was a form of reality television or hosting, but said it would be a “new challenge” and was being thrown in the deep end.

“I’m going there basically with an open plate and waiting for fate to throw things on it,” Greig said.

She hoped to reveal her new role in a couple of weeks.

Meantime, the endometriosis advocate has been very public about her dating woes and cited just one local date since moving to the Illawarra though she had more “luck” in Sydney.

She said the Illawarra is family orientated – which is what she wanted when she moved with in 2015 as a married woman with the intention to start a family – but it’s not ideal for a single woman in her late-30s.

Wave FM general manager Tony Williams said he was sad to see her go and would miss her, and wished her all the best and for her plans to “pan out”.

Williams was unable to confirm if they would advertise the position or whether Jade Tonta would become a permanent replacement in the breakfast team.

“We’re still working on a number of options at the moment,” he said.
