The Kollaras family is attracting global attention for its Wollongong business.

During the last month it received rave reviews for eight of its wine brands by Sam Kim, of Wine Orbit in New Zealand.

That was closely followed by bronze medals for three of its brands at the Royal Queensland Wine Show.

Two Truths Sauvignon Blanc, St Augustus Shiraz and St Augustus Cabernet Sauvignon took out bronze in Queensland after eight brands were recognised with positive reviews in the last New Zealand publication of Wine Orbit. The range received high ratings between 86 points and 93 points.

Marketing manager Georgia Kollaras said it was a great result considering Mr Kim has been judging wines for more than 20 years and has been on the judging panel at many of the world’s most significant wine shows.

Ms Kollaras said Kollaras & Co’s South Australian wine St Augustus Shiraz was also recently named Best Value Shiraz in the 2018 Drinks Trade Magazine.

Positive reviews also came for Kollaras & Co’s newest addition, Uppercut Shiraz, from the Barossa region.

Mr Kollaras said everyone involved in the Wollongong family business were elated with the recent results.

“It is huge credit to our passionate teams who work tirelessly to ensure we put our best foot forward,” she said.

“It is a great win not only for the business, but for the Illawarra as a proud community.”

In January managing director John Kollaras said the business was reaping the rewards of moves in recent years to focus it core beverage business on building brands across its channels.

Mr Kollaras said business was booming for the company that now had a global reach after starting from humble beginnings as a fruit shop in North Wollongong.

He said the enterprise was “now a brand owner and distributor as opposed to a wholesaler and box moving driven business”. He cited an examples of the ongoing success in liquor industry publications. They included a panel tasting done for National Liquor News where all five brands submitted made the ratings page.
