Sudden death football continues for the Illawarra’s rugby league players this weekend, with the second round of finals set to take place.

This weekend will mark the start of must-win footy for half of this weekend’s teams, however, with the higher seeds playing a grand final-qualifier in last week’s opening round of finals.

The losers of that match will now take on the winners of last week’s minor semi-finals, with a spot in next weekend’s Illawarra Junior Rugby League grand finals on the line.

The girls league tag will be held in Corrimal and Figtree on Friday night, with children aged from 10s up to 16s facing off for a place in the grand final.

In the top under 14s division, Wests Red edged Thirroul 10-8 in a tight minor semi-final last Friday night to earn a final against Collegians. The Collegians team will be out to bounce back after a 26-18 loss to Shellharbour in the major semi-final.

Shellharbour will be out to maintain the momentum gained from their 30-10 minor semi-final victory over Collegians in the 10 years division when they take on Corrimal. The Cougars fell to Thirroul White in the major-semi-final, 20-14.

Shellharbour will face Collegians in both 12 years divisions, with Wests already booking a grand final berth in the two divisions.

The boys will take to Noel Mulligan Oval on Saturday, with Thirroul and Wests well-represented across the divisions.

The two teams will battle it out in the first and second 12 years divisions, with Wests the higher ranked team in the first division, and Thirroul seeded higher in the second.

Dapto will take on Wests in the 10 years first division after the Canaries triumphed over Thirroul in last week’s minor semi-final. Corrimal earned the week off with a 24-18 win over Wests.

Wests booked a place in the 11 years first division grand final with a victory over Thirroul. The Butchers will take on Corrimal in this weekend’s qualifier.
