Corrimal-based Reynolds and Warilla member Thelan finished on 4wins+29 to take the $800 top prize.
Just three teams in a field of 32 were unbeaten with Engadine’s Peter Hughes and Dapto Citizens bowls coordinator Matt Miles combining with four tight wins and a +13 margin to share $500 as runners-up.
Sydney visitor Michael Clarke teamed up with Wiseman Park’s Glenn Taylor to finish third on 3.5 wins+26, with a draw costing them a shot at the top prize.
Remarkably, father and son pair Stuart and Tom Ellem had two draws in their four matches to finish fourth on 2wins, 2draws +39, with Max Donovan-Cayne Ford fifth (3wins+35) and Tim Perry-David Ferguson sixth (3wins+33). Each year Dapto Citizens run a tournament to mark the death of the club’s promising teenage bowler Jono Bickerdike, while his father Mick was also a Citos member and passed away in 2013.
‘’We had 32 teams and it was really well supported once again,’’ Miles said.
‘’The weather was perfect, the greens were in great conditions and it was a very competitive day with some top class bowlers here.’’
