Police will the 27-year-old from Berkeley entered a unit on Bruce Street just before 7pm on June 24 and repeatedly stabbed 45-year-old Mick Chicharo, who had been visiting a friend.
Youssef allegedly fled the premises immediately after the confrontation.
Meantime, police said a “third party” took Chicharo to Wollongong Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries, the extent of which was not revealed in court.
Youssef was arrested at 10am on Thursday following an investigation by Lake Illawarra detectives.
He was charged with causing wounding/grievous bodily harm to a person with intent to murder and refused police bail.
Youssef made a brief appearance in Wollongong Local Court on Thursday afternoon where he did not apply for bail and it was formally refused.
Police sources say Youssef is a high-ranking members of the Brothers 4 Life gang.
