Two of the city’s major roads will close on Sunday night.

The M1 Princes Motorway (between Bulli Tops and Memorial Drive) and Picton Road will close at 8pm on Sunday and reopen at 4am on Monday.

Picton Road eastbound will close at 7.30pm.

The twin road closures – to carry out road maintenance – affect traffic in both directions.

“This package of work will involve clearing vegetation, cleaning gutters and drains to improve stormwater runoff, road resurfacing, line marking and maintenance of safety ramps,” a Roads and Maritime Services spokeswoman said.

“This maintenance work is scheduled every three months to improve safety for the thousands of motorists who travel on these roads each day.”

During the closure light vehicles will detour via Bulli Pass and Memorial Drive and Appin Road.

The detours will add between 15 and 40 minutes travel time.

Heavy vehicles can use the same detour, unless they are longer than 19 metres.

If works cannot be carried out due to poor weather, the works will be rescheduled to Sunday, August 26.

There will also be a second closure of both roads on Sunday, August 19.
