NSW Fire and Rescue and Rural Fire Service firefighters have been dispatched to protect nearby properties on Mount Brandon Road at Jerrara, and contain the blaze.
At around 8.40am the grass fire was reportedly 200m long, burning on the southern side of the road near 356 Mount Brandon Road.
A large area of paddock is alight, and visibility is poor due to smoke.
At 8.50am firefighters made the call to evacuate residents.
Four crews are on their way from Dunmore, Albion Park and Illawarra.
Powerlines in the area may be down.
