Now based in Wollongong, the 12th annual Eutick Memorial Still Life Award (EMSLA) competition features a non-acquisitive cash prize with the finalists on exhibition at the Project Contemporary Artspace in November.
“It continues to be a significant platform for an increasing number of under-represented artists from all over Australia to show their remarkable still works,” the event beneficiary Dr Mal Eutick said.
Contemporary still life painting has shattered the traditional stereotypes of flower and fruit arrangements of 16th century Europe to now encompass a more diverse range.
Dr Eutick generously funded the inaugural award in 2006 and instituted the prize in memory of his parents Lillian and Malvin.
Previous winners include an images of skulls, a shopping trolley filled with groceries, paint brushes, a bowl of onions, an empty slushy cup, a crushed plastic cup and a landscape.
EMSLA opening night November 9 to coincide with Viva La Gong. For entry details visit: www.emsla.com.au
