The work was unveiled at Reddall Reserve by Shellharbour Mayor Mayor Marianne Saliba who said the new sculpture would add another valuable dimension to the growing art trail.
“[It’s] a stunning piece of work.,” Cr Saliba said.
“Public art is an important part of place-making. It helps a city to develop its personality, challenges thinking and promotes discussion.”
Hailing from the Southern Highlands, Mr Ball has been working as an artist for 20 years.
One of his previous works, Orb, was awarded the Aqualand Sculpture Prize award at Sydney’s 2017 Sculpture by The Sea exhibition and is now a piece of public art in Middle Head.
Mr Ball constructs his sculptures by hand and constantly considers his work in relation to the environment.
This connection is reflected in the scenic locations he chooses to exhibit in, and has led to most of his commissioned pieces being perched on rolling hills, nestled into gardens and enveloped by natural beauty.
“I believe sculpture should command and relate to a space and work completely in the round, offering differing experiences from all angles, structure and poetry in one,” Mr Ball said.
